September 2014 Residency Navigator
UPDATE: For the newest 2017-2018 rankings, please click HERE.
Today Doximity and US News & World Report revealed a tool they have been collaborating on, the Residency Navigator. This tool comes at a perfect time this year, as fourth year medical students are deciding where they want to submit their applications and where to interview for residency.
The methodology involved surveying current and former medical residents who are signed up for Doximity. Each physician was asked to nominate up to 5 residency programs in his or her field that they thought was the best training program. Over 17,000 doctors responded, which is a huge number, basically equating to > 10 years’ worth of medical trainees, according to an article by US News & World Report introducing this tool. Doximity then weighted the rankings by regional response differences, and published the top 10 programs in each specialty, according to doctors in that specialty. If you click into each program’s page, you will find more information broken down by top subspecialties by alumni, feeder medical schools, where their graduates practice, board pass rates, and more. All in all, this tool compiles information that I wish I had when I was choosing where to go for residency last year. I highly recommend this tool to medical students applying for residency, as a starting point for discussion. Of course, also use your gut feeling on interviews as well as information from current residents and program directors.
So without further ado, I present the top 10 specialties in each field, according to the Residency Navigator Tool!

Hi Lori, I’ve added the date at the top of this post and also linked to the 2016-2017 posts. You can click into the Doximity website itself for 11-25 ranks. I believe you have to be a member to see those rankings.
