
It’s hard to believe that this garden exists in the Bay Area; everytime I come here I’m transported to a shogun’s garden estate in Japan! Hakone Garden in Saratoga, California has become one of my family’s favorite spots. Originally designed by an imperial gardener as a summer retreat for a wealthy San Francisco philanthropist, Hakone has become a community park. Not pictured is the exotic bamboo forest, a spot you have to visit if you are in the Bay Area.
