Last week during a short trip to Los Angeles M and I stopped by the Huntington Botanical Gardens where several of my friends have gotten engaged. I didn’t actually know what to expect but the gardens there blew my mind! I’ve been in beautiful flower gardens before (see my travel post on Filoli Gardens in Woodside here) but the Huntington grounds were much more expansive and varied greatly in the types of plants, ranging from cactus gardens to a large 1.5 acre Chinese “Garden of Flowing Fragrance,” complete with a tea house, lake, multiple pavilions, and Suzhou-style gardens. M and I were both blown away by the beauty of the place and I definitely recommend you visit if you’re ever in Los Angeles!

A quick note about my recent Zara kids’ finds. I was surprised to find that several of their winter items fit me quite well (for reference, I’m 5′ tall and usually an XXSP in most stores that offer it), and my wallet thanked me for that. Apparently some kids and teenagers are very fashionable these days, as some of the styles in the kids’ section were identical to that in the adult side! I really liked the cream fur vest pictured here as well as the quilted waistcoast vest here (have and love in navy blue — pictured here). Both are on sale now for less than $30 apiece, which is a fraction of the price of similar adult sized items. I tried on size 11/12 as well as 13/14 and found that the 11/12 is a tighter fit. If you want to layer chunkier sweaters underneath I recommend sizing up to a 13/14. I also tried on some winter coats in kids’ sizing, but word of caution: I found the sleeves were a tad too short in 11/12. I would recommend sizing up to a 13/14 for heavier jackets or items with sleeves.
