Since I was on call last weekend, I put together a short vlog about what it means to be a dermatology resident on call, going over what I have handy in my supplies bag and what my duties are. Last weekend was the first spring-like weekend we had this year, so everyone wanted to be outside, and I didn’t get many calls!

Thanks a lot MD for this video. I just want to clarify. As a dermatologist resident on call are on Home call or you have to be in the hospital?
And I am just curious. Dermatological cases should not be emergencies. So I am wondering what a dermatologist would be doing on call

Hi Ogochukwu, as residents (and as attendings) we take call from home, so we do not have to stay in the hospital. There are a few dermatologic emergencies, like Stevens Johnson Syndrome, blistering drug eruptions, erythroderma (total body redness), so for those emergencies, we will absolutely go into the hospital as needed.
