Cabana Life UPF 50 Swimwear
You may think of sun protection when you go to the beach, but what you may not realize is that the clothing you wear does not fully protect you from UV radiation. Enter UPF clothing. UPF is a rating for how well the fabric of a certain garment protects you from the sun. An item with UPF 50 rating will only allow 1/50 of the sun’s radiation to get through to your skin. For example, check out fabrics A and B below. Fabric A is UPF 3 (not great at blocking UV radiation) vs. Fabric B which is tighter and is UPF 60 (much better at blocking UVR). For more information on UPF, check out the Skin Cancer Foundation’s guide (including more examples of fabrics) here. As you know, UV radiation increases your risk of skin cancer by causing DNA mutations in skin cells, and also cause photo aging, resulting in brown spots, discoloration, redness, and worsening texture of the skin. So many reasons to protect your skin from the sun!
Cabana Life is dedicated to making sun protection stylish, and they have designed some truly beautiful sun protective UPF50 clothing. This company was founded by two female entrepreneurs who both had experiences with melanoma, either personally or in their family, and with their merchandising background, they decided to make sun protection more fashionable. When they reached out for me to review a few pieces (c/o) I jumped at the opportunity, especially since I had a beautiful setting in Phuket to showcase the garments. I loved their clothing so much that when I got back to the States I immediately purchased several more items, including a bikini set for my sister-in-law!
Bikinis and Rashguards
One of my favorite pieces from the whole site was the cabo villa twist tie bikini set. I love the contrasting prints of coral and turquoise blue and the bikini is so comfortable to stay in all day. Perfect for swimming in the ocean or lying by the pool (under a big umbrella of course!) It also comes with a matching rash guard, pictured up top. The rash guard in S was long on the sleeves on me but I tend to have that problem with anything non-petite sized! I really liked the print of the rash guard, and the ruching on this side allowed for you to wear the top two ways: as a hip length swim top or longer (thigh-length) as a dress! That versatility is really cool, and quite unique for swimwear.
Also, this goes without saying, but you still need to apply sunscreen regularly, every 2 hours, SPF 30 (I recommend 50-75 if you’re going to be out in the sun the whole time), and seek shade periodically, especially if you notice your skin turning red. You don’t want to get a sunburn, because that means that your skin cells have already sustained damage.
Cover Ups
What I like and appreciate the most about Cabana Life are the FUN PRINTS! All of the garments have these beautiful prints with contrasting color patterns, and you can mix and match those with solid colored pieces for a neat overall look.
The cover ups are no exception. They have cover up prints that match the bikinis and new prints. I especially liked the fun details like the tassels and the hood on this one below!
I have spent so much time perusing the Cabana Life website because I’m IN LOVE with so many of the prints, and I can’t wait to go on my next beach adventure, partially so I can wear these beauties out again!
Thank you to Cabana Life for collaborating on this post.
